History of Native American drum
The Drum
Today as in years past the Drum is most known and most important instrument of
the Native Peoples. It is said that it is the most important of instruments
because it is considered to be the Heart Beat of Earth Mother, and that is why
Creator also give us heart beats. Drumming connects us to Creator through the
rhythms of the heart beats we become one. While drumming with good intentions we
may invoke
Harmony, Meditation, and Healing. While listening to the Drum beat we often
times sway or dance in a circle to complete that circle of life or connection to
Creator.
Drum types vary from hand drums to Pow-Wow type drums. They are constructed from
the Tree People and from the 4 Legged. We often time paint totem animals or
Clan or family names. We also use Feathers from the Winged Ones and paint the
drum with the colors of the Four Directions. Which also adds energy or healing
properties to the Drum.
The wood uses on the drums vary from Maple, Cedar and Cottonwood and other types
of wood chosen for their healing property's.
The skin most commonly used are Elk, Buffalo, Cow , Bear and Deer . Sometime
Horse,
which also add to the healing Circle.
So we Drum, we Dance, We Pray completing the circle with Creator for unity and
healing
