History of Native American drum

The Drum
Today as in years past the Drum is most known and most important instrument of
the Native Peoples. It is said that it is the most important of instruments because it is considered to be the Heart Beat of Earth Mother, and that is why Creator also give us heart beats. Drumming connects us to Creator through the rhythms of the heart beats we become one. While drumming with good intentions we may invoke
Harmony, Meditation, and Healing. While listening to the Drum beat we often times sway or dance in a circle to complete that circle of life or connection to Creator.

Drum types vary from hand drums to Pow-Wow type drums. They are constructed from the Tree People and from the 4 Legged. We often time paint totem animals or Clan or family names. We also use Feathers from the Winged Ones and paint the drum with the colors of the Four Directions. Which also adds energy or healing properties to the Drum.

The wood uses on the drums vary from Maple, Cedar and Cottonwood and other types of wood chosen for their healing property's.

The skin most commonly used are Elk, Buffalo, Cow , Bear and Deer . Sometime Horse,
which also add to the healing Circle.

So we Drum, we Dance, We Pray completing the circle with Creator for unity and healing
