Winter Hawk Drummers & Singers is a women's group that came about because of a
little women that shared her heart.
Grandmother Rena is the keeper of Winter Hawk Drum. She is the founder of the
drum group. These are her words.
The Winter Hawk Drum
The Winter Hawk Drum, was a vision from many years ago, when it was first
dreamed about it was to gather a family together, not just blood but a family of
like mind and common bond. Which was an extended family. As we started to grow
we became a family we bonded stronger than blood. A love for each other like no
other. Sometimes we lived together as a family. Other times we lived apart, with
distance between us we were not able to drum and sing. Even though there were a
distance between us we still hold that connection together. We called it Winter
Hawk Medicine Drum, many people did not understand the drum name for the word
medicine takes on a whole different meaning for some people. But Creator says
that a merry heart is like good medicine. When we were together making a joyful
noise and drumming we were all happy so it was good medicine. The drum was
always open for any one to drum, sing and many times dance. If you have a desire
to learn respect, and honor you are always welcome to sit at our Family Drum.
It has always be a heart felt desire to join people together at the Drum,
Traditionally the drum has always been with the men. For many years now like the
songs it is calling all people for it is the drum that is the heartbeat of us
all. I have walk for 5 years with some of the Women who now sit at this Drum
with me. We have a common desire to connect with Creator, and to drum and sing
and inspire others to also find that Connection with Creator. Some months ago
we went to South Carolina, to toss around some idea's for a
festival to be held there and the Women's Group Winter Hawk Drummer's was born.
I hope that if you hear us Drum and Sing that you will feel our Connection with
Creator, and you find your Connection also, and if you all ready have that
Connection, then your Connection will be strengthened . We can drum and sing
together to magnify his name.
